This is the first book in a series, and follows Bobby, a young boy, as he is transported to an alternate world, where a war is soon to start. The book has quite a good idea, and is comprised of journals written by Bobby which are sent back to his friends on earth. At the start. Bobby is incredulous about this other world, until he goes through a portal with his uncle and is forced to fight monstrous bear type animals which are out to kill him. He later learns that he is supposed to lead the Milago, a weak tribe of miners against the powerful Bedoowan knights, who enslave them. He isn't really the fighting type, though, and even with the help of others, it's going to be a hard task.
