The Alex Rider Series

by Anthony Horowitz

Walker, 2002/2003, 329 pages, ISBN 0744590574

How easy was it to get stuck into this book?
The Alex Rider Series includes (in order) Stormbreaker, Point Blanc, Skeleton Key and Eagle Strike (Book 5-Scopio soon to be released). All four books have a certain thing that gets you involved, sometimes it almost allows you to shout what's going to happen at Alex. I think one of the best things is the way you hear (or read) the plot thicken even though the main character (Alex) is not in the room.

Who are the main characters?
Alex Rider was a normal 14-year-old boy from London when his uncle Ian Rider is killed by assassin Yassen Gregorovich, sending Alex into the world of Gadgets and Guns (which the MI6 don't allow him to have).

What's the storyline?
Stormbreaker - Spy and uncle to Alex, Ian Rider is killed and Alex soon finds out he is about to enter what his uncle's world was about. Hot new computers named Stormbreakers are going to be released to every school in Britain And Alex Rider has to stop Herod Sayle from unleashing whatever's in those computers. Point Blanc - Alex Rider is now sent to investigate a behavior school to investigate strange goings-on of how the children behave when they get back. But is this his final quest? Skeleton Key - When Alex Rider is sent to Wimbledon to just be a ball boy ,nothing else he meets Sabina Pleasure his new (girl)friend, but that has nothing to do with what happens really. He trips up on a Chinese Gang and ruins their plans of assonating certain players. Now they're chasing him so he is sent to America to work with two CIA agents to investigate the Cuba resort island Cayo Esquelto-Skeleton Key. Eagle Strike- I have currently not finished this book but so far Alex has met Damian Cray, Pop Singer, Drug Hater, Greenpeace man. But Alex knows he's up to something, especially when his friend Sabina's South of France villa is destroyed by a bomb planted by Yassen and her father Edward is seriously injured. He finds Damian Cray's number on Yassen's mobile and Damian is bringing out the brilliant new games system-Gameslayer.

How's it written?
All 4 books are written in a way you are involved, as if you are with Alex the whole time. The book is even better when the storyline continues while Alex is not in the room.

Other books by the same author that James Angus knows about?
Loads.

The overall verdict is
Really good stuff

Quick Pick
- 31 July 2010 -

First Sword is the third book in the Darkweaver Legacy and has the same fast and action-packed style of the first two books. It follows a mix of characters including the hero and heroine of the earlier books.
